Bhiwandi is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra, with a population of over 600,000 people. It is an industrial city, northeast of Mumbai and its is famous for its textile mills.

Manyo of the population work in manufacturing. Bhiwandi's industrial growth is a result of its proximity to Mumbai, which is only 48 km to the south.

Bhiwandi is linked to Mumbai and other cities and towns by major highway and railroads. Many people travelling from Mumbai to Nashik or Mumbai to Ahamabad stop here enroute.

Bhiwandi lies on the lowlands of the Konkan Coast or Karavali, which are the names given to a stretch of rugged and beautiful section of the western coastline of India stretching from Raigad to Mangalore.
