Bhiwandi Economy

The Bhiwandi economy is based on two primary vocations, tourism and trade. The trade is in reference to the manufacturing and textile industry that is booming. The other is tourism, which allows people to have a lot of different experiences and memories of this part of India. Textile and migrant workers make a majority of the economy here. There are also goods and services distributors and exporters here that also make up the power loom manufacturing industry. More than four million people are directly or indirectly dependent upon the looms of Bhiwandi. This is the main source of income and economy here in Bhiwandi.

However all is not good on the economic front. While Bhiwandi was once known as a powerhouse for power looms, most looms are now not being used and the working people are migrating back to their place of origin. Bhiwandi is becoming a haunted place, losing work and looms at an alarming rate. What this will do to the economy is anyone’s guess. Other places are shutting the doors on skilled loom workers, adding to the troubles. This outlook does look bleak, but better things will come of this. There sure will be a ray of sunshine.

Hopefully, the picture and the outlook will turn around. There are other manufacturering sectors besides looms that need workers. The upcoming retail sector, and they are planning setting up mega projects in the region. There is still the shipment industry and export industry to keep things from falling apart. Exports to the rest of the world also help this region of India. There are other opportunities as Bhiwandi is a hub of shipping, transshipping and warehousing sector. The economy is also affected by the floods and the damages left by such flooding. This said still Bhiwandi rebounds from its losses and bounces back again and again, denying naysayers with its resiliency.

This is a place where fortunes can be won or lost. The economy is very dependent on its many different types of job producers for its economy. There is tourism here but much still remains on the shoulders of the manufacturing industry as well as the other associated industries with it.  The tourism sector has flourished with many a theme parks, water parks and many a holiday destinations coming up in the last decade or so. This is an important fact, one that cannot be overlooked or ignored in the view of the bigger picture. The government and private industry has effectively cashed on its proximity to Mumbai to develop it as a weekend destination for Mumbaikers.

Any trouble and everyone will get hit hard. This is just life as we know it. But life in Bhiwandi goes on. It weathers every storm and hard blow and still keeps fighting for itself to stay on its feet. This is the way of life in this part of the world. This is Bhiwandi economy at its best and at its worst. It will bounce back from any catastrophe that is thrown at it and rise above. Like a phoenix from the ashes, Bhiwandi will rise again.
